95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transfer Case Troubles...?
I 've asked this question before but no one answered -_-i have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee limited, 4.0l inline 6 cyl. the transfer case(tc) is an np249. i am getting a "check 4wd switch " error message on the cid(center console vehicle status display). it has approx. 240k miles on it, original transmission, tc, driveshafts, front axle, and torque converter. i believe the rear axle and engine block have been replaced with oem replacements at some point(i 'm the 2nd owner, don 't know what the first owner did during those 8 years).question is, what would be a place to start looking for why i am getting the read-out, along with a 'jerking ' while turning very sharply only after being driven for several miles..i know there was a screw-up, 5 yrs ago, from a mechanic who put the wrong tires on that overheated the front differential and blew the pressure hose, but that was corrected and there were no problems until about 2 1/ 2 yrs ago with said problems.. this is my daily driver and i am very limited on finances to put into it at this time, so the cheaper route to start would be appreciated. i want to correct this problem before it gets any worse, too much time has already gone by...please help, my fellow gearheads!!!!!!!!correction, cid is displaying "service 4wd switch ", not check.. 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Problem?
I own a 2012 grand cherokee, and i noticed that whenever i am in drive and on an incline ( like my driveway) if i let go of the break while still in drive, my vehicle will sit there for about 3-5 seconds, then start to roll backwards untill i hit the break again. is this something wrong with my car? or is this just some feature? Why Wont My Jeep Start?
If i only drive a couple of blocks to get to work, my 97 jeep cherokee won 't start unless i wait for a few minutes. this is right after i turn it off i turn it right back on to make sure that it will start again because im paranoid. but if i drive a long distance and go up into higher speeds it will start right up again. i just had the battery and the starter relay replaced. oh and when it doesn 't start, the battery turns over, just the engine won 't start. also there is a grinding noise come from the back along with light vibration. what is going on? could it be the fuel pump? Engine Messed Up On 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Need Help Please?
Hi i was driving a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo v8 i had just recently purchased about 10 days ago. a couple days ago i noticed an oil leak. was gonna take it in after the weekend. then, i noticed that some coolant was leaking. so today after the thermostat started climbing to dangerous levels, i pulled over to a cvs pharmacy and got some peak coolant (ethanol -glycol based) like instructed by the drive manual. i put it into the carthe temperature seemed to stay within the normal range for awhile in the parking lot and well we had a couple errands to run so i started to drive. about 4 miles out the temperature started to quickly rise. then i heard some knocking in the engine and i started to look for a place to pull over and well the car turned off right before i was gonna turn it off. steam was visible inside the engine. i opened the engine and there was bits of oil splattered near the battery and radiator cap. plus, the coolant which i had filled up in the reserve tank was empty and a load of oil has been coming out of my car. the engine tries to start but fails. i also noticed while driving that the rpm was randomly moving up just a lil then down. lastly i noticed that the heater even before the failure that it was blowing cold air. oh, and if you could, any estimates on how much it 'd cost to repair.ugh you 're probably right "going to baroque " . just thinking of the cost of everything is making literally ill. (spent so much and now i dont have that kind of money to repair a major engine issue like a cracked block or head gasket type of thing)as for the other comment, well i bought it from a private party. i have yet to transfer ownership but the guy already has the money... i have no idea whats gonna happen now but yeah, theres no sales office i can go to. I have removed all the bolts and busted it loose from the block but it is acting like something is holding it from the inside. i cant get it to slide any direction or pull it straight down. if anyone has any info on this i sure would appreciate it.i did get a manual, and did what it said, also the dipstick is on the passenger side next to the tran. dipstick. i do appreciate you getting back to me, i will call a dealer tomorrow. p.s. this sucks, but they say what dont kill you makes you stronger!!!! i hope this damn thing dont fall on me!!!!!!!! haha have a good one i will get back to you and let you know whats going on to hopefuly help someone else have a good one thanks for your time johnny (Read answers)
How To Remove Sliding Caliper Mounting Bolt On 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I recently did my front brakes on my 04 jeep grand cherokee and during my test drive i noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from the front right wheel. upon further inspection i noticed that the whole brake assembly was not sitting straight. the rotor was off by approx 1/ 8 " on the front side. i believe that this is being caused by too much pressure on the outside brake pad. wear on the rotor is consistent with my theory. i then noticed that the bottom bolt that holds the caliper to the mounting bracket does not move like the top. they are sliding joints with a rubber cover that allow the caliper to center over the rotor. i tried to remove the sliding joint but it is stuck. anyone know how to go about removing them?i tried the flathead and hammer approach and it didn 't budge (Read answers)
